Galatians 6:9
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the
proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
The great things in life do not come without struggle and effort.
If you have landed
a mate, brought a child into this world, raised a child, built a house, or lost
25 pounds, you know that these things are the fruit of hard work.
Human tendency is to sit around and wish we had
the good things while remaining unwilling to put forth the effort to see them
come to pass. It is easy to be envious
of the person who had gotten to a place in life that we aspire to, especially
when we do not take the time to consider what personal sacrifice brought them
to the realization of the goal.
It is often easy to start something new. Exciting even. But the discipline it takes to stay with
something after the emotional rush is over is what separates the men from the
boys, the achievers from the dreamers.
The passage today makes it plain that doing good
will lead to a potential of weariness. But
some time after the tendency to be weary, looms the potential to reap the
harvest. We all want to get to the “goody”
in life. We want to get the raise, pay
off our debt, see our loved ones saved, and have a large and thriving
ministry. But we have to press on beyond
the weariness to reach the goal.
The one sure step to failure is giving up.
The difference between Olympians and average
athletes is the drive to keep going when everyone else is having fun. We need God’s strength to help us stay on track
when the going gets tough.
Dear Lord, help me to see beyond the weariness. Help me not to be a quitter and as you
prepare the harvest, please prepare me for the harvest. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
