Ps 118:24
24 This is the day the Lord has made;
We
will rejoice and be glad in it.
NKJV
Some days are good days. Some days are bad ones. It really just depends on the
circumstances. Or does it? Each day that we are alive is a gift of God-
to be cherished and relished. Each day
was made by Him for a purpose and for our enjoyment.
The second part of this verse is making
a declaration. We will rejoice and be glad. Some days, the only way to rejoice and be
glad is by choice. It is a decision
whether we give way to our feelings of sadness or foreboding. We can just as
easily choose to think about what is right, rather than what is wrong.
Today we took the boat out to celebrate
Labor Day. A horrible and frightening storm began to arise in the gulf. As we packed up our picnic and headed back to
shore, I was amazed at the view. On the
left side of the boat was blue skies, sunshine and bliss. On the right side was dark rain clouds, and
what looked to be the beginning of a waterspout. I vacillated between tranquility and fear- it
all just depended on which view I was taking in at the moment. It was all about the vantage point.
I do not know what tomorrow holds. It
could be fun, family and friends, or perhaps it will be stress, work and
chores. Either way, we can resolve to
enjoy it. We can reflect on the gift
that it is and be glad in all He has done for us. Our quality of life depends more on the way
we respond to circumstances, rather than to the circumstances themselves.
Dear Lord, thank you for the gift of today. For the sunshine we enjoyed, as well as the
rain you provided. I choose to be glad
in the time that was spent, rather than
sad about missed opportunities. In
Jesus' Name. Amen.
