Rejoicing in the Trial
1 Peter 1:6-7
In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 NKJV Trials. They are a part of life, but no one is excited about being in the middle of one. I know, in theory, that the battles and trials of life make the joys and successes more meaningful. They add context and texture to our lives. But, if we are not careful, they can also cause us to feel overwhelmingly discouraged and defeated.
The preceding verse is talking about the future glory of heaven. When we look at our current trails, in view of heaven's joy and blessings, it gives us perspective and the ability to persevere under trial. We must always view life through the lens of eternity, recognizing that the troubles we are now experiencing are just a "blimp" on the continuum of eternity. The joy, the glory, the rapturous delight of being in His presence will far outweigh any current battles. Therefore, we can rejoice. If not because of our circumstances, because of our Savior! If we cannot delight in pain and suffering, we can delight in our Deliverer. Not only so, but we can greatly rejoice because He is just that good!
Sometimes the darkness crowds our view and it is hard to recognize the truth. But this verse points out an important point- we can still rejoice while grieving!
Dear Lord, help my friends today to stand through their trials. Help them, I pray, to find your peace, and to call to mind all of the blessings inherent in salvation. Grant them glad hearts and a spirit that rejoices. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
